Type of Surgery Required for Gynecomastia Problem

The incidence of Gynecomastia surgery  (male breast reduction) can be seen rising if one considers recent reports. However, few people know what exactly causes the condition commonly referred to as ‘man boobs’. Gynecomastia is caused due to the build-up of breast tissue in men. As the chest appears like that of a female, it can cause embarrassment in the patients. The condition may be seen in puberty but resolves itself after some time. However, in some men, the issue does not resolve itself and continues into adulthood. Mild Gynecomastia

For mild gynecomastia, liposuction is the most effective treatment. VASER liposuction is preferable as the fat on the chest is quite fibrous. In many cases, the technique is to be used to re-contour the male chest. However, Vaser might not be effective in removing the glandular tissue all by itself. Some degree of surgical gland removal is required along with Vaser liposuction in many cases.

It involves making a small incision after which ultrasound energy emulsifies the unwanted fat. As compared to standard liposuction, Vaser liposuction offers a quicker healing time and better results for patients, which makes it a popular mode of treatment. As it can’t remove the fibrous breast and glandular tissue which lies behind the nipple, the surgery should be a combination of Vaser and surgical removal.

It may be carried out in very rare cases, in which the patient has very little and mild to moderate gland tissue. It is usually seen in bodybuilders.

Severe Gynecomastia

Severe gynecomastia is characterised by the presence of excessive skin. In these cases, VASER liposuction and gland removal is the procedure followed for treatment.
