Excess fat on the chest of a man makes him appear feminine and it causes an embarrassing situation for him. This condition in which the men show a lady like a chest is known as Gynecomastia. The condition may occur due to genetic reasons or hormonal imbalance. Although it doesn’t have any serious implications, it makes the man look less masculine and lowers his self-confidence.

Gynecomastia may be seen in various age groups – infancy and late adulthood( 50 to 80 years).  Although the last resort is gynecomastia surgery, there are some nonsurgical measures through which the condition can be reversed. Following are the options which can help a man regain his masculine-looking chest-

  • Adopting an Exercise routine
  • Controlling Food habits

Many people opt for male breast reduction surgery to reduce male breasts. In this post, we intend to take a look at the methods of male breast reduction.

Exercise

Adopting an active lifestyle will help you burn your extra calories. An overall reduction in body fat will help in reducing the weight on the chest. You will see the results for yourself when you start working out.

Food

Avoiding certain kinds of food and opting for an organic diet can help treat Gynecomastia.  Let’s see which foods you should avoid-

  • Foods that contain phthalates and packed food increases the level of estrogen thereby causing Gynecomastia in your body.
  • Seafood, as pesticides are used on them, can lead to an enlarged breast.
  • The fruits with edible skins have high estrogen content in them. It is thus recommended that you avoid strawberries, peaches, and cherries.
  • Canned food should also be avoided.

Surgery

If exercise and healthy food habits do not bring about an improvement in the condition, then surgery can be tried.

Gynecomastia surgery starts with the administration of general anesthesia followed by making small incisions on both sides of the chests. The excess fat is removed from the body through these incisions. The surgeon makes the incisions in either the armpit area or on the edge of the areola. The location of the incision depends on the amount of fat and the type of surgical technique being used. The scars made due to the incisions fade away naturally with time.

The recovery period is not too troublesome. You will be required to wear a compression garment for the first few weeks, which will support the operated area and alleviate the swelling as well. Of course, you will have to abstain from lifting heavy loads and performing strenuous exercises.
